Mina Foundation along with o1Labs have forged a strategic collaboration with Celestia and Geometry Research to streamline the development of zero-knowledge applications (zkApps) and bolster the functionalities of the Mina Protocol. The joint effort aims to integrate Celestia’s modular Data Availability (DA) layer with Mina Protocol, utilizing cutting-edge research and expertise in cryptographic proofs.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone for the Mina ecosystem as it gears up for a major mainnet upgrade, poised to enable zkApp programmability.
With zkApps gaining traction for their potential in addressing critical issues such as data protection, scalability, and proof of identity, the integration of Celestia’s modular DA layer is expected to pave the way for higher throughput and enhanced functionalities within the Mina developer toolkit.
Kurt Hemecker, CEO of the Mina Foundation, emphasized the importance of simplifying the developer experience for those building zkApps.
“Breaking down these barriers is a top priority, and the addition of this highly requested feature to the Mina developer toolkit will significantly enhance the scope and capabilities of zkApp builders on Mina,” Hemecker stated.
The integration of Celestia’s DA layer with Mina’s zero-knowledge native blockchain opens up new possibilities for projects seeking to verify large amounts of off-chain data and scale users.
Powered by Succinct’s Blobstream X, this collaboration sets the stage for verifying foreign proving system proofs on Mina, further enhancing its utility for a wide range of applications.
Brandon Kase, CEO of o1Labs, highlighted its potential to simplify zkApp development. “This Celestia integration has the power to significantly improve the capabilities of zkApps,” Kase commented.
Already, plans are underway to leverage the modular DA layer for scaling operations in the zero-knowledge space. Zeko Protocol, a cross-chain zero-knowledge scaling protocol built on Mina, which recently raised a $3 million pre-seed funding round, aims to utilize enhanced data availability to support the next generation of zkApps that will shape the future of decentralized finance, AI, gaming, and the internet.
