APhone, the world’s first decentralized virtual smartphone, has teamed up with Aethir on a solution that enables 10x more user capacity while dramatically cutting operational costs.
Powered by Aethir’s enterprise-grade GPUs and distributed cloud infrastructure, this new solution allows APhone to support over 800,000 daily active users at a cost of less than $0.60 per user monthly. This leap from APhone’s current capacity of 80,000 users is a substantial improvement in cost and efficiency.
Aethir recently reported $36 million in revenue over the past year — reflecting a 10% monthly growth fueled by the rising demand for AI, cloud gaming, and edge computing.
William Paul Peckham, an executive at APhone, said: “This partnership is pivotal as APhone aims to expand its infrastructure from the current 80,000 peak concurrent users to even greater heights in the near future. Leveraging Aethir’s distributed GPU infrastructure will save us $3.2 million quarterly, resulting in a quarterly expenditure of just $1 million in ATH tokens for computing resources.”
Aethir’s decentralized cloud infrastructure is lauded for its capability to handle real-time computational needs essential for gaming, rendering, instance hosting, and AI applications. This synergy is crucial for APhone, which offers users seamless access to various decentralized applications (dApps), including games and AI agents, directly through their cloud smartphones.
The collaboration promises not only scalability but also significant cost reductions. Traditional cloud phone services typically cost over $25 per month, whereas APhone, utilizing Aethir’s infrastructure, can offer these services at a fraction of the cost — just $6 per month. This competitive pricing is expected to make APhone’s services more accessible to a broader audience.
Central to this partnership is Aethir Edge, an enterprise-grade edge AI device integrated with Aethir’s distributed GPU cloud infrastructure. Aethir Edge enhances the efficiency and speed of Web3 applications, ensuring optimal performance with minimal latency. This is critical for the smooth operation of resource-intensive dApps and metaverse experiences.
Mark Rydon, Aethir co-founder and Head of Strategy, highlighted the benefits of Aethir Edge: “By assigning unique IP addresses to each cloud smartphone, Aethir Edge is immensely beneficial for applications requiring distinct network identities, such as gaming, IoT, and decentralized finance platforms. This feature also boosts security, improves network performance, and ensures reliable data processing and transmission across various use cases.”
APhone’s platform, designed as a gateway to Web3, provides users access to a curated selection of dApps, from DeFi protocols to immersive metaverse experiences, irrespective of hardware constraints. Additionally, the platform enables developers to build, launch, and scale Web3 projects effortlessly, fostering a continuous influx of innovative applications for users.
To date, Aethir has distributed 11,000 Aethir Edge devices, which provide GPU-as-a-service for AI processing, gaming, VR/AR, and real-time streaming. These devices are in high demand, with future releases available via a waitlist. Device owners can earn rewards in Aethir’s native token, ATH, with 23% of the total supply reserved for Aethir Edge users. This initiative supports decentralized, user-owned edge computing, steering away from centralized data monopolies toward equitable access and governance.
