FoodChain Global (FCG), a blockchain-based ecosystem focused on fighting global hunger through NFTs, P2E games, staking, and exclusive merchandise, has partnered with FoodForward SA to secure food for vulnerable communities across South Africa.
While the developed world continues to battle rising inflation, and worry about soaring fuel prices, 40% of South Africans still go to sleep hungry, in East Africa 7 million people are at risk of starvation, and another 33.8 million face acute food insecurity. All of this is compounded by the Russia-Ukraine war which threatens to cause a global food crisis.
FoodForward SA is a South African nonprofit feeding those in vulnerable communities by securing food in a cost effective way. It uses its resources and connections on the ground in South Africa to purchase vital food products and distribute them to those suffering from food insecurity across the country’s nine provinces.
Deidre Adams, FoodForward SA’s Fund Development Manager, said:
“The partnership will be a critical enabler of our work as we advance our core business of recovering good quality surplus food from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers, and redistributing this food to vulnerable communities across South Africa.”
Shawn Kurz, Founder of FoodChain Global, said:
“Our formal partnership FoodForward SA officially expands our food donations onto the African continent. We chose FoodForward SA since they are a solid boots-on-the-ground organization.”
Alongside this partnership, FCG is listing its FOOD token on MEXC and simultaneously launching 5,400 NFTs as part of its “Foodies” series.
According to the partnership, FCG will donate 30% of all FOOD tokens sold on MEXC which will be used to buy food by FoodForward SA.
FoodForward SA will be the boots on the ground in South Africa managing purchases and distribution of food for those suffering from hunger across the country. This partnership unites two organizations dedicated to eradicating the plague of hunger.
In a press release received by AlexaBlockchain, FoodChain Global mentioned the moment FCG sells FOOD tokens on MEXC, 30 percent of the proceeds get converted to USDT, which are then converted to U.S. dollars and used to buy food.
FoodChain Global mentioned that tackling the challenge of global hunger is its primary goal. The company said that it will bring transparency by making the donations traceable “through a public blockchain address coupled with FCGs proof-of-work page” which will showcase “pictures of their team doing charity work for each event”.
