HyperPlay has announced a strategic partnership with MetaMask, launching a first-of-its-kind, the MetaMask games directory within the MetaMask Portfolio, creating a one-stop shop for game discovery and management of in-game assets.
HyperPlay has already distinguished itself by amalgamating popular game stores like Epic Games Store and GOG with its proprietary HyperPlay Store. This integration allows gamers to manage and discover games across platforms, all within a single, unified hub. Now, with the introduction of the MetaMask games directory, players can directly access MetaMask-compatible games, streamlining their gaming experience and in-game asset transactions via a crypto wallet.
Prior to this development, web3 gamers faced the inconvenience of navigating separate marketplaces to utilize a game’s blockchain features. With the HyperPlay integration, gamers can now manage everything from in-game purchases to token collection directly through the MetaMask overlay, irrespective of the game’s platform.
“We are thrilled to further our relationship with MetaMask in our collective mission to reshape the web3 experience to fit the gaming world’s evolving economy,” said JacobC.eth, Founder of HyperPlay.
“Together, we’re shifting the gaming paradigm by expanding accessibility and interoperability for all players. There is no wallet solution more focused on interoperability, extensibility, and user safety than MetaMask,” he added.
This collaboration comes at a time of rapid expansion for MetaMask. With the recent launch of MetaMask Snaps, the platform now supports over 40 unique payment methods across 177 countries and has seen a dramatic increase in the number of dapps integration.
“Our continued collaboration with HyperPlay underscores the importance of streamlining wallet interactions for players and game developers alike,” Kai Huang, Senior Product Manager at MetaMask, said in a statement.
“Blockchain gaming has incredible potential to disrupt game developer monetization strategies and how gamers play, but we need to improve player adoption through seamless user experiences. With HyperPlay’s games directory available through the MetaMask Portfolio, users have a convenient platform for purchasing games and making in-game transactions using their existing cryptocurrency holdings,” Kai added.
HyperPlay’s journey began as a joint venture between MetaMask and Game7, a DAO focused on building the infrastructure for web3 gaming. HyperPlay aims to establish interoperability as a cornerstone of the web3 gaming sector, enabling developers to tap into new markets and revenue opportunities. The company raised $12 million in a Series A funding round in June 2023, led by Griffin Gaming Partners and BITKRAFT Ventures.
In a landscape where traditional platforms like Apple and Steam charge developers up to 30% in fees, HyperPlay stands out by offering zero fees on in-game economies, presenting a more sustainable and developer-friendly model.
