Decentralized communications platform dTelecom has announced its migration to peaq, the pioneering blockchain platform dedicated to decentralized private networks (DePIN) and machine real-world assets (RWAs).
This transition from the Arbitrum ecosystem marks a significant leap towards leveraging blockchain technology to tackle the inherent challenges of centralized streaming services.
With video streaming increasingly becoming integral to entertainment, business, and personal communication, platforms like Netflix, Twitch, and various video conferencing tools have become household staples.
Netflix boasts over 260 million global subscribers, while Twitch draws 240 million monthly users, highlighting the vast reach and potential of streaming technologies. However, the centralized nature of these services raises pressing concerns about security, censorship, and transparency.
Addressing these issues, dTelecom is pioneering a decentralized approach to video and audio streaming, aiming to empower users and developers by distributing control away from central authorities.
Utilizing community-operated nodes, dTelecom’s DePIN facilitates decentralized distribution of live audio and video content, offering a robust alternative to traditional, centralized protocols.
The partnership with peaq is a cornerstone of this initiative, with dTelecom planning to utilize peaq’s layer-1 blockchain as its foundational infrastructure.
This collaboration will see dTelecom’s core business logic deployed on peaq, alongside the integration of peaq’s software development kit (SDK) and decentralized identities (peaq IDs) for a more secure and scalable streaming solution.
Petr Malyukov, co-founder of dTelecom, envisions a broad spectrum of applications for their technology, from decentralized versions of popular platforms like Discord and Netflix to innovative use cases such as Web3 streaming services and voice chats for play-to-earn games.
“With peaq as our secure and scalable backbone, we’re poised to disrupt the billions-worth centralized market,” Malyukov states, underscoring the potential of decentralized streaming to change the game for a myriad of services.
As part of the migration to peaq, dTelecom will also transition its smart contracts from the Arbitrum testnet, introduce a reward distribution mechanism, and facilitate the migration and onboarding of nodes on the peaq network.
The initiative will culminate in a Token Generation Event, launching dTelecom’s native token on peaq and further solidifying its position within the DePIN ecosystem.
Till Wendler, Co-founder of peaq, mentioned live streaming as a compelling application for DePIN with significant market potential.
“We are confident that dTelecom will create substantial value within the peaq ecosystem and eagerly anticipate its role in transforming live streaming as we know it,” Wendler said in a statement shared with AlexaBlockchain.
