Temporal has appointed former Galaxy Digital Head of DeFi Michael Marcantonio as CEO. Michael brings institutional trading and corporate finance experience to the Solana infrastructure developer.
Marcantonio succeeds co-founder Ben Coverston, who co-founded the firm alongside Jakob Povšič. Temporal’s website currently lists Coverston as “Founder, Engineering,” although the company has not detailed his responsibilities following the leadership change.
Marcantonio previously led Galaxy’s onchain trading and decentralized finance operations. He also worked on strategic acquisitions and investments as senior corporate counsel. Earlier, he advised private equity firms and public companies at Kirkland & Ellis.
Temporal’s Growing Influence on Solana Trading
Temporal operates several components of Solana’s trading infrastructure, including decentralized exchange HumidiFi, transaction delivery service Nozomi and block-building platform Harmonic.
Harmonic raised $6 million in November 2025 through a funding round led by Paradigm. Its infrastructure enables Solana validators to select blocks from competing builders rather than relying on a single provider.
Temporal says Harmonic serves validators representing approximately 30% of Solana’s network stake. Its separate validator business reportedly supports more than $1.5 billion in staked assets.
HumidiFi has also become a significant participant in Solana’s decentralized trading market.
Temporal says the exchange captured up to 60% of spot trading volume at its peak. However, its market position faces growing competition.
Blockworks Research reported that HumidiFi’s average daily volume declined 57% QoQ to $461.8 million in Q1 2026. Rival BisonFi’s volume increased 362% to $431.5 million during the same period.
Expansion Into Derivatives and Institutional Markets
Marcantonio plans to expand Temporal’s operations beyond spot trading into perpetual futures, prediction markets, options and structured financial products.
“Our ambition is to reengineer the global financial system,” Marcantonio said.
“We are taking on Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Morgan Stanley, and the legacy financial order they represent.”
The expansion comes as Solana attracts greater trading and tokenization activity.
Solana’s decentralized exchanges processed $78.33 billion in September, up 20% from August. Tokenized real-world assets reached $4.6 billion, while tokenized-stock trading generated approximately $4.4 billion in monthly volume.
However, Temporal’s growing involvement across trading, transaction routing and block production raises questions concerning market concentration.
A February Blockworks analysis examined potential conflicts when infrastructure providers also operate trading businesses. It identified an earlier execution advantage for HumidiFi on Harmonic, although that advantage subsequently disappeared.
Marcantonio will face the challenge of translating Temporal’s existing infrastructure into additional financial products while maintaining competitive execution and market confidence.
