Ripple and Web3 security platform Immunefi have teamed up to launch a global “Attackathon” designed to test and fortify the upcoming XRPL Lending Protocol. The initiative officially begins today (October 13) with an educational phase, followed by an intensive bug-hunting competition starting October 27 and running through November 29.
Strengthening XRPL’s Institutional DeFi Ambitions
The XRPL Lending Protocol is the next major milestone in Ripple’s roadmap for decentralized finance on the XRP Ledger. Expected to go to a validator vote later this year, the protocol introduces pooled lending and underwritten credit directly on XRPL. The system enables borrowers and lenders to connect seamlessly through automated loan issuance, repayment, and yield generation — all without intermediaries.
Designed for institutional-grade compliance and transparency, the protocol integrates with existing risk frameworks while reducing operational friction in credit markets. Ripple sees it as a foundation for global financial institutions to tap on-chain liquidity and improve capital efficiency in tokenized environments.
“XRPL was designed to support secure, real-world financial applications, and that’s especially important as lending is introduced to the network,” said Jasmine Cooper, Head of Product at RippleX.
“This initiative is about making sure the proposed Lending Protocol is thoroughly tested and resilient before launch, so developers and institutions can build with confidence. Partnering with Immunefi allows us to work with some of the top security researchers to help strengthen this new layer of XRPL’s DeFi infrastructure,” Cooper added.
Security Through Collaboration
Immunefi, one of the largest Web3 security communities, brings its proven “Attackathon” model to the project. Under this format, security researchers compete to uncover vulnerabilities in exchange for rewards. The upcoming event will feature a $200,000 bounty pool and a dedicated “Attackathon Academy” to train researchers on XRPL’s architecture before the main competition.

The educational phase begins October 13, preparing participants with technical training before the official bug-hunting window opens on October 27. During the challenge, Immunefi will maintain real-time leaderboards, track vulnerabilities, and host an X Spaces AMA with XRPL Foundation developers and Immunefi’s security leads.
Raising the Standard for DeFi Security
Launched in 2012, XRPL has built a decade-long track record as a fast, low-cost, and reliable blockchain optimized for real-world finance. With the introduction of native lending, Ripple aims to expand XRPL’s role in institutional DeFi, complementing its use cases in payments and tokenization.
The platform currently supports more than 60,000 white-hat hackers protecting over $180 billion in assets and claims to have prevented more than $25 billion in potential hacks.
