Quick Take

MapMetrics partners with peaq to revolutionize Web3 navigation, using decentralized infrastructure (DePIN) for a Google Maps-style service. This collaboration enhances user privacy and leverages Solana compatibility, marking a significant step in the evolution of user-centric navigation services.

MapMetrics Expands to peaq: Transforming Navigation, Empowering Privacy in a Web3 World

Free navigation apps, such as the ubiquitous Google Maps boasting a staggering billion monthly users, may appear cost-free at first glance but carry a concealed expense – your personal data. These applications frequently monetize your location data, often with scant regard for user privacy. Giant corporations like Google take this exploitation to the next level, amalgamating this data with a plethora of other sources to craft digital profiles capable of forecasting your behavior more accurately than you can envision.

Companies behind free navigation apps like Google Maps frequently utilize user data for insights and targeted advertising, sometimes without adequate consideration for privacy safeguards. MapMetrics, a Web3 drive-to-earn navigation app, is aiming to disrupt this paradigm by embracing Web3 principles.

In a related devlopment, MapMetrics has partnered with peaq, a leading blockchain platform for real-world applications to redefine the landscape of navigation services by leveraging decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePINs) and Solana compatibility to enhance user privacy and data monetization.

The platform utilizes location trackers that allow users to share anonymized data with the network, earning cryptocurrency and NFT rewards in return. While offering its own ad engine, MapMetrics ensures that user data remains private and shares advertising revenue with the community. With 3,500 devices and 5,000 users spanning 73 countries, MapMetrics is rapidly gaining traction in the Web3 navigation space.

As part of its collaboration with peaq, MapMetrics will harness peaq’s Multi-Chain Machine IDs to facilitate device connectivity with the peaq network. Key functions of MapMetrics’ navigation DePIN will be built on peaq, utilizing peaq IDs to authenticate and secure anonymized data collected by devices. Furthermore, MapMetrics will leverage peaq to create a community voting mechanism that enables users to contribute to the platform’s navigation service by adding location data, such as speed cameras, and validating it through community votes.

The integration between MapMetrics and peaq aligns with peaq’s expansion strategy, which includes adding Solana compatibility to its Multi-Chain Machine IDs. This update allows Solana-originating projects like MapMetrics to seamlessly incorporate peaq’s DePIN functionalities without encountering friction or fragmentation issues. The address map within peaq’s storage pallet serves as a critical component, facilitating cross-chain communication and information exchange between different networks.

By expanding its peaq IDs’ compatibility to Solana, peaq has opened up new opportunities for projects within the Solana ecosystem. It enables Solana-originating teams to tap into peaq’s DePIN functions effortlessly, further propelling the adoption of Web3 technology in navigation and data privacy solutions.

Brent van der Heiden, CEO of MapMetrics, said: “With its DePIN-focused functions and economics, peaq is the perfect home for DePINs. We are excited to be joining this bustling ecosystem, and the newfound compatibility between peaq IDs and Solana addresses is making this process significantly more convenient.”

Till Wendler, co-founder of peaq, emphasized the importance of an open Multi-Chain Web3, where protocols seamlessly communicate and exchange value.

He noted, “By making peaq IDs compatible with Solana, we take another step toward bringing this vision to life — and it’s invigorating to see excellent projects such as MapMetrics use this technology to solve real business problems with the DePIN model.”

The partnership between MapMetrics and peaq signals a promising future for Web3-based navigation services that prioritize user data privacy and community engagement, while also facilitating cross-chain collaboration within the blockchain space. As the Web3 ecosystem continues to evolve, collaborations like this one are poised to reshape industries and empower users with greater control over their data and digital experiences.
