MapMetrics, a Web3 drive-to-earn navigation application, has announced its strategic decision to migrate its entire platform to peaq, the layer-1 blockchain known for DePIN (Decentralized Precision Infrastructure Network) and Machine RWAs (Real-World Assets).

The move marks a significant transition for MapMetrics, which initially built its infrastructure on Solana. Last year, MapMetrics began integrating peaq for some of its functions and capabilities. However, recognizing the unparalleled potential of peaq’s ecosystem, the company has now decided to fully migrate its platform to peaq, aiming to leverage the advanced functionalities offered by the peaq blockchain.

At the heart of MapMetrics’ innovative approach lies its commitment to empowering users. Unlike traditional navigation apps, which capitalize on user-generated data without offering compensation, MapMetrics introduces a groundbreaking model where drivers earn rewards for utilizing the navigation dApp. This novel concept has gained traction, with over 55,000 installations across 177 countries.

Moreover, through strategic partnerships, such as the collaboration with Microsoft to enhance Bing Maps, MapMetrics has demonstrated its capacity to revolutionize the navigation landscape.

The decision to migrate to peaq represents a logical evolution for MapMetrics. By harnessing peaq’s robust infrastructure, including its Modular DePIN Functions and DePIN-friendly economic model, MapMetrics aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of its services.

Commenting on the migration, Brent van der Heiden, co-founder of MapMetrics, emphasized the importance of aligning with a network that prioritizes stability and scalability.

“As one of the original players in the DePIN space, we need a network with stable transactions, machine data verification, and a synergistic DePIN-focused ecosystem,” said van der Heiden. “peaq provides us with all that and more, enabling us to elevate MapMetrics to new heights.”

Echoing this sentiment, Till Wendler, co-founder of peaq, highlighted the pivotal role of navigation services in real-world industries.

“Navigation is a crucial service for mobility, logistics, and other vital real-world industries,” said Wendler. “MapMetrics’ migration to peaq underscores the growing significance of blockchain technology in revolutionizing traditional sectors.”

The migration to peaq is expected to unfold in multiple stages, encompassing the deployment of smart contracts, token minting, and interface updates.
