Apeiron, the first web3 godgame developed by Singapore-based Foonie Magus, has launched the Apeiron Guild Wars 2024, its most ambitious esports event yet with a staggering $1 million prize pool. The event marks a significant step in Apeiron’s evolution from a casual multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) to a leading player in competitive gaming. This inaugural tournament combines elements of god games and roguelites, aiming to engage both casual gamers and hardcore competitors alike.
Developed by Hong Kong-based Foonie Magus, Apeiron is the world’s first NFT-based godgame, drawing inspiration from classic titles like Populous and Black & White. The game uniquely merges roguelite dungeon card-battlers with god game simulation, offering a novel entertainment platform within the rapidly expanding web3 space.
To date, the development of Apeiron has been fueled by $24 million in seed funding from major industry players, including Hashed, Spartan Group, and Morningstar Ventures.
The tournament’s structure is designed to showcase the global reach and inclusive spirit of the Apeiron community. It will kick off with online preliminaries starting May 21, leading up to in-person semifinals and finals slated for Q3 2024 in Hong Kong. The competition will feature a special Guild PvP leaderboard, running from May 21 to July 2, to determine the participants in the SEA and NA Invitationals, taking place in mid-July.
Guilds from around the world are expected to compete. Participants in past Guild Wars Preliminary tournaments include Avocado DAO, GuildFi, W3GG, Zombie Club, Ancient 8, METAT8, Sura, and APE.GG.
The top twelve guilds from the regionals will advance to the main event, battling in a double-elimination format. The prize pool is split between $500,000 in cash and an equal amount in NFTs, highlighting the game’s integration of blockchain technology.
Frank Cheng, CEO of Foonie Magus, noted that Apeiron is more than just a game—it’s a burgeoning ecosystem aiming to cultivate a strong community and a diverse competitive scene.
“Apeiron Guild Wars 2024 is our way of celebrating this commitment as we gear up toward the official game launch on mobile platforms,” Cheng added.
The game is currently accessible in open beta through the Epic Games Store and Mavis Hub, with a full launch expected later this year. Live matches will be streamed on Apeiron’s official Twitch channel, with community engagement activities planned across various platforms, including Discord.
With the Guild Wars 2024, Apeiron is setting a new standard for competitive play in the web3 space, potentially shaping the future of blockchain-based gaming.
