Key Takeaways

  • 1KIN Labs has launched GR1D, a modular Layer-2 blockchain that allows players to discover new games and access them via a single platform, without the need to swap chains and wallets.
  • Having onboarded over 100 Web3 titles, including Aavegotchi, BLOCKLORDS, and Aurory, and formed partnerships with ecosystems like Polygon, Solana, Avalanche, and others, 1KIN is already well-positioned to bring the first unified Web3 gaming hub to fruition.
  • Via GR1D, Web3 game developers can tap into a vast user base without having to migrate from the blockchain they originally chose to build on.

1KIN Labs today announced the launch of GR1D, an advanced modular Layer-2 blockchain network designed to unify the fragmented Web3 gaming sector. The platform has already onboarded over 100 decentralized game titles, including prominent names like Aavegotchi, BLOCKLORDS, and Aurory, offering a central hub that simplifies player access and interaction across various blockchains.

GR1D’s architecture allows players to enjoy a diverse range of Web3 games without the hassle of switching between multiple chains and managing several wallets. This approach not only enhances user experience but also preserves the unique aspects of each game by maintaining their native blockchain environments.

1KIN Labs said that it has already forged several partnerships with leading blockchain ecosystems such as Polygon, Solana, and Avalanche.

According to 1KIN Labs Founder, Jack O’Neil, GR1D is built “to unify the way Web3 games are discovered and provide unified tooling to allow full interoperability across chains and titles.”

“GR1D provides users a no-nonsense sign-in experience like Amazon Prime Gaming or Xbox Game Pass while also bringing the efficiencies of blockchain and distributing value back to shareholders,” Jack said.

Furthermore, GR1D will offer a range of tools and services aimed at developers and players alike. One of the standout features is the 1PASS, a subscription service described as a decentralized Xbox Game Pass, which provides access to exclusive content, early game releases, and various discounts. “During the closed beta in 2023, the service already saw high demand from gamers, with 25,000 participants,” the company mentioned in a statement.

Another key component is the 1KIT SDK, which enables game developers to integrate seamlessly with GR1D, enhancing their existing applications or creating entirely new ones within the ecosystem.

A pivotal aspect of GR1D’s functionality is its focus on interoperability and liquidity of gaming assets, which are expected to be major game-changers for the industry. The network will utilize a universal gaming token, GR1D Credits ($GRID), to facilitate transactions and interactions across different gaming platforms, ensuring a smooth and efficient exchange of assets.

In addition to technical innovations, GR1D also introduces a global ID system, the GR1D Tag, allowing players to maintain a single digital avatar across all games within the ecosystem.

As the Web3 gaming industry continues to expand, GR1D’s integrated network model could potentially set a new standard for blockchain gaming, making it as mainstream and user-friendly as its traditional counterparts. With its upcoming token generation event for $GRID, 1KIN Labs is not just enhancing the gaming experience but also paving the way for a more interconnected and accessible digital gaming future.

The 1PASS program is expected to go live in early August, with the GR1D Testnet scheduled to launch in the second half of 2024 and the Mainnet expected in 2025.
