Unstoppable Domains has unveiled a groundbreaking strategy today. This strategy aims to bridge the gap between Web3 top-level domains (TLDs) and the conventional Web2 landscape by collaborating with partners to register branded TLDs with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) on behalf of brands.

This initiative will enable blockchain-based domains, such as Vitalik.eth, to be indexed and searchable on major search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, and DuckDuckGo, as well as resolvable in the traditional DNS.

With this integration, there is significant growth potential expected from NFT brands like Pudgy Penguins, whose market capitalization exceeds $640 million TVL, as well as traditional businesses and even cities seeking to capitalize on this development. Recent developments include the city of Austin launching its own Web3 domain.

In a significant development, UD has successfully launched its 10th branded Web3 domain, .pudgy, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s journey.

The unveiling of .pudgy sets the stage for UD and Pudgy Penguins to embark on a strategic partnership aimed at registering .pudgy as an ICANN-registered generic top-level domain (gTLD). If successful, .pudgy will join the ranks of revered legacy addresses such as .com, .net, .org, and others, in the traditional Web2 space.

“We are thrilled to partner with Pudgy on this ambitious venture. Our alliance is poised to test and deliver a low-cost solution, paving the way for future ICANN registrations,” Sandy Carter, Chief Operating Officer of Unstoppable Domains, said in a statement shared with AlexaBlockchain.

This strategic move signifies a concerted effort to integrate Web3 domains into the Web2 ecosystem, offering a seamless and cost-effective naming solution.

As UD continues to lead the charge in leveraging blockchain technology to empower users and brands with control over their digital identities, the partnership with Pudgy Penguins exemplifies a shared commitment to innovation in the digital space.

“Our combined efforts underscore our dedication to a user-focused web. We eagerly anticipate our engagement with ICANN to materialize our shared vision,” Pudgy Penguins President and CTO, Lorenzo Netz, said.

The proposed strategy for the .pudgy gTLD marks just the beginning of a transformative journey. With the potential for many more Web3 domains to receive their Web2 counterparts, users, brands, and companies stand to benefit from the synergies between both worlds.

This strategic collaboration sets the stage for a new era of digital innovation, where the power of Web3 domains converges with the traditional Internet landscape, unlocking endless possibilities for online presence and identity management.
