Layer-1 protocol Saga today announced the inception of Saga Origins. This game publishing division is designed to usher in a new era of gaming by supporting developers in bringing innovative and captivating games to a broad audience.

The first web3 chain to offer a dedicated game publishing arm

The announcement, made during the Saga Multiverse Reveal at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), positions Saga as the first and only web3 chain to establish a dedicated game publishing arm.

Saga Origins Offers Comprehensive Support Beyond Grants

Saga Origins stands out by offering a comprehensive suite of services that go beyond traditional grant support. This includes partnerships with influencers for heightened awareness, sponsored user acquisition campaigns, community building efforts, and promotional support. This holistic approach aims to alleviate the burden often placed on developers to attract users, instead promising to use Saga’s platform to bring games to potential players.

The initiative has already demonstrated its capability to engage the community through Play-to-Airdrop campaigns, rewarding participation with coveted $SAGA tokens.

A notable example is the recent The Three Kingdoms campaign, a collaboration that included major web3 players such as Avalanche, Polygon, and Solana, showcasing Saga’s commitment to fostering a unified web3 gaming community.

Rebecca Liao, Co-founder and CEO of Saga, emphasized the company’s dedication to supporting developers in the web3 space, stating, “Saga Origins is our love letter to the developers building games in web3.”

Liao’s vision for Saga Origins is to redefine gaming experiences by enabling developers to produce “provocative, expansive, and uncompromising titles.”

The Saga Multiverse Reveal event highlighted upcoming projects and collaborations, including games like Rogue Nation and Another World, which promise to leverage the Saga chain’s low-cost, high-performance infrastructure.

This infrastructure is the result of over two years of development, aimed at meeting the specific needs of web3 developers and ensuring the Saga ecosystem thrives.

Anticipation for the Mainnet Launch

With its Mainnet launch on the horizon, Saga is gearing up for a significant expansion of its ecosystem. The launch is expected to be a catalyst for the Saga economy, bringing to life a multitude of games and entertainment content. The anticipation for this event was further heightened by the premiere of a cinematic trailer, setting the stage for an April release.

Saga’s commitment to the gaming industry is evidenced by its growing portfolio of 335 Innovator projects, 80% of which are games. The company has also established key partnerships with leading web3 projects such as Polygon, Avalanche, and Celestia, solidifying its position as a leader in the development space.

Saga is solving critical technical challenges of web3

Last year Saga raised a $5 million seed extension round spearheaded by Placeholder, elevating its total capital raised to a remarkable $13.5 million. This milestone followed a previous fundraising in 2022, where Saga secured $6.5 million at a valuation of $130 million, drawing attention from notable investors such as Polygon Studios and Longhash Ventures. This investment round succeeded a $2 million pre-seed funding orchestrated by Ignite Inc., previously known as Tendermint, which was part of an incubation program in late 2021. The swift aggregation of financial support underscores Saga’s robust standing in the market and its promising future as an innovator in the web3 space.

At the heart of Saga’s pioneering approach is its development of “chainlets” — bespoke blockchains designed for particular applications. These chainlets are instrumental in allowing developers to quickly launch decentralized applications (dApps), tackling one of the significant hurdles in the evolution of the decentralized web: the efficient development and scaling of dApps. This innovative strategy not only highlights Saga’s commitment to solving critical technical challenges but also positions it as a leader in the advancement of web3 technologies.

The GDC event not only served as a platform for the announcement of Saga Origins but also as a celebration of the gaming industry’s future. With the Mainnet launch just weeks away, Saga aims to further unite the web3 gaming community, promising exciting developments for both developers and players in the near future.

The company will announce inaugural projects and partnerships under Saga Origins in the near future.
