The Rarimo Foundation has unveiled RariMe, a MetaMask Snap designed to allow MetaMask users to store and manage their identity credentials within their MetaMask wallet.

RariMe is one of the first identity extensions to launch on Snaps. Snaps are new features and functionality, created by third-party developers, that MetaMask users worldwide can install directly into their wallet. Previously, MetaMask features were exclusively developed by MetaMask developers employed by Consensys.

RariMe introduces an innovative social identity feature to MetaMask, eliminating the need for users to switch between their identity and digital asset wallets.

This integration offers MetaMask’s extensive user base of over 100 million users access to identity storage and the management of privacy-enhancing Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs).

Additionally, RariMe enhances the user experience by ensuring that all credentials are fully multi-chain. This means users no longer need to issue separate proofs for different blockchain networks but can issue a proof on their preferred chain and seamlessly utilize it across Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Chain, and Avalanche. This interoperability is enabled by Rarimo, an interoperability protocol that facilitates state replication and on-chain verification.

Lasha Antadze, Co-Founder of Rarify Labs, noted that RariMe significantly improves the user experience in the digital identity space, removing friction between identities and cryptocurrencies. This enhancement is expected to drive growth in various emerging Web3 movements that rely on digital identities, such as decentralized social media and on-chain gaming.

Christian Montoya, Product Lead at MetaMask Snaps, emphasized the importance of permissionless innovation in the decentralized ecosystem and how Snaps empower users by expanding features related to digital identities, credentials management, and decentralized social protocols.

Upon its launch, RariMe will integrate with Rarimo’s Proof-of-Humanity plug-in, enabling users to utilize identity credentials from platforms like Unstoppable Domains, Civic, and Gitcoin to prove their human status rather than being bots. Additionally, RariMe will facilitate users in building reputations on platforms like Galxe, Zeely, and QuestN, which are focused on reputation-building and quest-based applications.
