Eliza Labs, formerly known as ai16z, has announced the migration from its experimental $ai16z token to $elizaOS. The transition reflects the project’s evolution from a sandbox initiative into a production-ready infrastructure for intelligent, composable agents.

“With elizaOS v2, we’ve moved from an experimental sandbox to production-ready infrastructure for building composable, intelligent agents,” said Shaw Walters, founder of Eliza Labs. “These agents now manage complex workflows, retain context, and operate across multiple platforms.”

The company claims more than 50,000 agents have been built, with projects leveraging elizaOS surpassing $20 billion in combined value.

The new $elizaOS token introduces a structured economic model aimed at sustaining the growing ecosystem. Its design supports liquidity provision, incentivizes developers, and enables agents to transfer capital efficiently across markets. A treasury mechanism underpins long-term stability, funding future initiatives while avoiding the ad-hoc structures that plagued earlier iterations.

Unlike many crypto assets, $elizaOS is intended to function as a productive token. In practice, this means agents can pay for computation, transact across chains, and manage capital flows autonomously. Chainlink’s CCIP ensures seamless operation across networks such as Solana, Base, and Ethereum, bypassing the inefficiencies of traditional cross-chain bridges.

Eliza’s AI agents already use $elizaOS to transact and negotiate live on-chain. One example is the Agent Bond Desk, which adjusts bond terms in real time based on treasury requirements and market conditions. Another, Spartan, serves as the protocol’s liquidity manager, autonomously rebalancing portfolios and executing trades across chains.

This approach introduces “generative tokenomics,” where value is created dynamically through autonomous agent interactions rather than fixed parameters. The design could reshape how DeFi markets function by allowing agents to adapt, learn, and execute decisions independently.

The announcement comes as enterprises explore AI-driven treasury management and automation. Businesses are looking for systems capable of handling complex capital flows while meeting compliance requirements. Eliza’s solution positions agents as active market participants, rather than passive analytical tools.

“These agents are managing real capital today,” mentioned Walters, “$elizaOS is the functional backbone of an agent-powered economy already in motion.”

The migration portal officially launched September 22. Holders of $ai16z will have ample time to transition. To address concerns, Eliza Labs confirmed all smart contracts will undergo independent audits, with results made public to ensure transparency.
