Aptos Foundation, the organization dedicated to supporting the growth and development of the Aptos blockchain protocol and ecosystem, has announced its first group of grant recipients. The foundation has awarded 50 new project teams with a total grant allocation of more than $3.5 million to continue scaling on the Aptos blockchain.
Aptos is a layer-1 blockchain that uses key elements of the former Diem blockchain along with Move, a Rust-based programming language independently developed by Meta. Move is designed to evolve, improve performance, and strengthen user safeguards.
The Aptos Foundation’s grant program prioritizes public good services, infrastructure, and teams focused on open-source development. The foundation reviewed over 500 applications across a wide range of initiatives before selecting the final 50 projects based on merit of idea, potential value for the broader ecosystem, and the team’s ability to lead the undertaking to fruition.
The grant program is aimed at empowering builders and creators to shape the network and bolster its public utility.
Bashar Lazaar, the newly appointed Grants & Ecosystem Lead at Aptos Foundation, said: “It’s fundamental that we continue cultivating strong relationships with our community of developers and entrepreneurs to foster a collaborative, sustainable and innovative environment for the success of Aptos and the broader web3 ecosystem. The grants were spread across four categories: Developer Tooling, Infrastructure, Education, and Ecosystem. Notable recipients include Mokshya and Pontem for developer tooling, Aries and KYCDao for infrastructure, Overmind and Aptos Eden for education, and Tsunami and Topaz for ecosystem projects.
The foundation mentioned in a press release shared with AlexaBlockchain that it has also opened its next wave of grant applications in April, and applicants can apply for one of the suggested grant categories or propose a project that could further benefit the Aptos ecosystem.
To be eligible for an Aptos grant, projects must provide new substantial value to the ecosystem, be open-source or commit to a timeline for open sourcing, and teams can remain anonymous publicly but will need to pass identity screening with the Aptos Foundation.
