Telecommunications innovator Chirp Network has collaborated with peaq, the layer-1 blockchain for DePIN and Machine RWAs.
The partnership aims to furnish a decentralized backbone for IoT devices globally, leveraging Chirp Network’s expertise in building a unified, multi-protocol decentralized connectivity network.
Chirp’s flagship “Blackbird” gateways, already spanning 33 countries, offer connectivity for a myriad of IoT hardware through various channels, including LoRaWAN, LoRa 2.4 gHz, BLE, and more. Coupled with Chirp’s LTE networks, these gateways can seamlessly connect devices worldwide, facilitating the exchange of data across borders effortlessly.
Notably, the collaboration with peaq will see Chirp Network playing a pivotal role in granting DePINs (Decentralized Programmable IoT Nodes) a reliable and versatile means to connect smart devices to global networks via any major Internet of Things (IoT) protocol.
Till Wendler, Co-founder of peaq, highlighted the importance of decentralized connectivity for DePINs.
“peaq’s integration with Chirp unlocks this crucial feature for all DePINs in the ecosystem, enabling devices all over the world to communicate via a people-owned network,” Wendler remarked.
The integration heralds a significant milestone for the burgeoning DePIN ecosystem, promising enhanced interoperability and accessibility for IoT devices.
“Chirp’s agnostic approach to wireless protocols will assist DePIN builders in bringing the largest-ever number of IoT devices on-chain,” Wendler mentioned.
XMAQUINA, the project behind the world’s first fully autonomous tokenized robot cafe, is set to be the pioneer DePIN in the peaq ecosystem to harness Chirp Network’s connectivity layer. Recently unveiled at the TOKEN2049 conference in Dubai, XMAQUINA’s tokenized robotic barista relies on Chirp’s IoT connectivity layer to link with peaq, facilitating autonomous operation by exchanging data with the blockchain seamlessly.
Furthermore, Chirp Network will extend its connectivity services to other notable projects within the peaq ecosystem, including ELOOP and Silencio. ELOOP, a platform enabling tokenized investment in DePINs, will leverage Chirp’s connectivity via the peaq network, while Silencio, a DePIN on peaq incentivizing users with cryptocurrency for collecting local noise pollution data, will also benefit from Chirp’s robust infrastructure.
As part of the integration, Chirp Network will establish an endpoint layer for devices on peaq, enabling seamless communication with the blockchain. Additionally, Chirp will introduce an API to provide developers with greater flexibility and launch a data handling service tailored for DePIN devices utilizing SIM cards, such as smartphones and tablets.
“Reaching true decentralization is no trivial matter. Our integration with peaq will bring the DePINs building in its ecosystem one major step closer to it — ultimately resulting in a world whose infrastructure backbone is run by its users, not Big Tech,” Tim Kravchunovsky, founder of Chirp Network, said in a statement.
The collaboration between Chirp Network and peaq represents a significant stride towards realizing the full potential of decentralized connectivity for IoT devices, promising a future where the infrastructure backbone is democratized and controlled by the users themselves.
